Should I Get A Tummy Tuck or Liposuction? (or Both)
This is something I have been researching because I am also interested in fixing my body.
I’ve had two pregnancies and one boy was a whopping 10 pounds!!
You can imagine how stretched out my belly got.
Even after working out and getting back to my ideal weight/body fat, my belly still did not return to its normal look and flatness.
I have major loose skin on my belly button area.
On top of that, I have Dastasis Recti, which means my ab muscles need repairing.
Diastasis Recti Abdominis is more prevalent in women during pregnancy and postpartum.
So I booked a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
And I actually had my consultation yesterday!
I spoke to a plastic surgeon to get his opinion on my body and what I need.
I was told I’m a great candidate for a tummy tuck and no liposuction was needed.
If you are considering a tummy tuck or liposuction and are unsure about which one is most appropriate for you, then read on.
Tummy Tuck vs Liposuction
Some women do both a tummy tuck and liposuction at the same time, it just really depends on your main concerns and how your skin currently looks.
I did a lot of research and have a good understanding so hopefully, I can help you know which is better for you.
A plastic Surgeon could tell you in person what you need.
But if you want a girl’s opinion who is also on the path to a procedure, then read on!
Option 1: Tummy Tucks – These are best for women who have stretched-out loose skin.
This can come from having babies and being left with a saggy belly with stretch marks.
This is also good for people who went through major weight loss and again have loose skin that needs to be removed.
Tummy Tucks (aka Abdominoplasty) also address your weakened and stretched-out ab muscles.
They will sew your muscles back up to get you strong and toned.
Option 2: Liposuction – This is best for women who have overall normal skin elasticity everywhere. This is for women where body fat is your concern.
If your belly and body is generally tight and you just want to suck some fat out to contour your body, then this is great!
Liposuction is not for removing loose saggy skin. It is for sucking out fat and contouring your body.
Option 3: Tummy Tuck AND Liposuction – This is a combo and best for women who have saggy skin from previous pregnancies, AND also have body fat that they want removed.
This is expensive because you have to pay for two different procedures, the tummy tuck and the liposuction.
However, this does sound like an amazing procedure if you need it and can afford it. I could imagine a full transformation.
Tummy Tuck vs Liposuction Diagrams
Here are some quick charts to illustrate the main points of Liposuction and Tummy tucks.
Basically, a Tummy Tuck costs more than liposuction.
And a tummy tuck is more aggressive as it removes skin, and repairs abs.
Liposuction removes fat from under the skin. No skin removal. It’s the fat remover.
